Depth that paint cannot give
Venetian plaster is applied by hand, one thin layer at a time, and each layer is worked with the trowel before the next goes on. That layering is what gives the wall its depth and the gentle shifts in tone that move with the light. The finish is seamless, with no joints or roller marks, and can be taken from a soft, stone-like matte through to a polished sheen.

How it works
From prepared wall to finished plaster
- 01
Surface assessment
We check the wall or ceiling is sound, flat and dry. Venetian plaster shows what is underneath it, so the base has to be right before anything goes on.
- 02
Preparation and priming
Repairs, fills and sanding bring the surface true, then a primer or key coat gives the plaster something to grip.
- 03
Layered trowel application
The plaster goes on by hand in thin layers, each worked with the trowel to build depth and that soft variation in tone.
- 04
Burnish and protect
The final layer is burnished to the sheen you choose, from a stone-like matte to a polished finish, then sealed or waxed where the room calls for it.
Common questions
Venetian plastering, answered
What is Venetian plaster?
A decorative plaster, traditionally lime based, applied by hand in thin layers and burnished with a trowel. It gives a seamless wall with soft variation in tone, from a stone-like matte to a polished, marble-like look.
Where can Venetian plaster be used?
Feature walls, arches, hallways, living areas, ceilings and full rooms. It suits both new builds and renovations, as long as the surface underneath is sound and properly prepared.
How is it different from paint?
Paint sits on the surface as a flat film. Venetian plaster is built up in layers, so it has real depth and movement, and the finish changes subtly with the light through the day.
Can you choose the colour and finish?
Yes. The plaster can be tinted, and the sheen is set by how it is burnished. We talk through samples with you before we start so you know exactly what you are getting.
Do you prepare the walls as well?
Yes. We do our own GIB fixing, stopping and plastering, so we can take a wall from bare board right through to a finished Venetian surface with one team.
